Even though I write a bi-weekly newsletter about GenAI, I still feel like I’m behind. I can’t even keep up with all the other newsletters about GenAI filling up my inbox every day.
There’s so much to learn and train myself on—not to mention that every week there’s a new winner in the AI arms race. Did you know that Meta just released its own GenAI model called Llama 3? According to Forbes, this new open-source model is already outperforming ChatGPT-3.5 and Gemini, but how do we know Mark Zuckerberg didn’t pay Forbes to say that? Forbes also once tried really hard to convince us that Kylie Jenner was a self-made billionaire, so I like to maintain a healthy amount of skepticism about anything Zuck & Co. tries to hype as the future of the internet.
GenAI tools are often marketed as super fast, quick, and easy to use. In (non-virtual) reality, it takes time to get good at prompt engineering and figure out the best way to integrate tools like ChatGPT into your workflow.
Most people I know have heard about GenAI, use ChatGPT a little bit, and are annoyed by the new Meta AI “search” function on Instagram. Most people I know are also too busy to dive into GenAI, even if they think it’s something they probably should learn about.
But have no fear, because I've created a super fast, quick, and easy quiz you can take to gauge how behind you are in learning GenAI:
1. Do you understand how GenAI and LLMs work?
a. yes, I am an expert and know all
b. I think so? Sort of?
2. Do you know what prompt engineering is—and would say you’re pretty skilled at it?
a. yes, I’m so good at this my nickname is Prompt Daddy™️
b. I’ve tried to get better at prompts, but the results are not great
3. Have you had conversations with colleagues at your job about how GenAI will impact your industry?
a. yes, we’ve already adapted a new GenAI-integrated content strategy
b. lol, my colleagues/company are still using [insert outdated technology here]
4. Are you familiar with ethics in AI and how it potentially affects the work you do?
a. yes, my company/business now has GenAI best practices and guidelines in place
b. um, I don’t know? we’re using tools like ChatGPT but we don’t have any rules or policies about it
5. Are you worried about GenAI replacing your job?
a. yes, definitely
b. no, I think it’s a fad
c. somewhat. I don’t know enough about it yet
If you answered b to questions 1-4 and a, b or c to question 5, then you should sign up for my free workshop, ChatGPT Basics for Busy Creatives !
This workshop will take place on Monday, May 20th from 12pm to 1pm CST. Signup details and registration are in the event link. There will also be a post-workshop recording if you can’t attend the live class.
Hope to see you there (virtually)! Thankfully this workshop will not be taking place in the metaverse.
This a brand new free newsletter to help non-tech people learn and understand GenAI—please share and give this post a ❤️ so it reaches more readers!
